The leadership of our national coalition includes several legends of the real civil rights movement - including Walter Fauntroy, who organized the March on Washington for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In addition, the Congress of Racial Equality - one of our nation's "big four" civil rights groups - has played a leading role in our national coalition for years. They have done so because they believe the legacy of the civil rights movement is being abused by selfish activist groups seeking to force a destructive social agenda upon the majority of Americans. Regardless of what radical activists may say to intimidate Californians who believe in marriage, when you stand with Californians for Marriage, you are standing with leaders of the civil rights movement. You can join them in saying:
California is a state where the false "civil rights" rhetoric of the enemies of marriage are on their fullest display. But California is also a state where the largest minority community - the Hispanic community - is solidly in favor of protecting marriage. For this reason, Californians for Marriage is proud to have been especially successful in mobilizing leadership from the Hispanic community in California -- to join with all Californians -- in support of protecting marriage and Proposition 22. California's Latino population will be an essential component of any victory we will have for marriage in California. It is impossible to imagine a scenario where a pro-marriage amendment could win without strong Latino support in California. For this reason, Californians for Marriage has already formed a highly respected California Latino Steering Committee to build support for our cause in this crucial community. Initial members of our growing Latino Steering Committee include: Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, Jr., National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Rev. Felix Posos, Northern Pacific Latin American District of the Assemblies of God, Dr. Jessie Miranda, Alianza Ministerial Evangelica Nacional, Dr. David Lazo, Church of Power, Dr. Sergio Navarrette, Southern Pacific Latin American District Assemblies of God, and Rev. Gilbert Montelongo, Tabernacle of Praise. |
